A Scene from Yesterday: Prosciutto Bruschetta
2020-12-16
Notes
20201216, With a confirmed COVID case forcing everyone out of the office in a hurry, the place looked just like a scene from a disaster film — you know the kind, where people vanish in an instant for some unknown reason. At one desk, a half-written Post-it and a pen sat abandoned; across from it, a computer screen still showed an email with no recipient filled in. In the empty seats, phones rang like short, startled screams, over and over, and cold air blew in through a window someone had left open for ventilation. The morning news said the daily COVID-19 case count had topped a thousand for the first time, and that it was the coldest day of the winter so far. Out the window, far off, I could see coworkers huddled together in small groups against the cold, collars turned up, heading toward the temporary screening clinic offering free COVID tests. #ASceneFromYesterday
And so, this breakfast post ends up posted late, as it goes.
I threw together — at the speed of light — a bruschetta of bread topped with basil pesto, the world's prettiest chicory, and prosciutto, and ate it.
