Spread it onto white bread and trim off the crusts. #potatosandwich Starting the day with the sound of a pencil being sharpened felt just as fitting at the Kita-Aoyama house as it did at the summer cottage. Once I tried it, it really did seem like the perfect first task of the morning. Like the smell of coffee brewing, the scent of pencil shavings slowly wakes a mind still fogged with sleep. Somehow, I found myself thinking that the smell of a well-used pencil isn't so different from the smell of coffee beans three or four days off the roast.
