The evidence and testimony they presented were nothing short of shocking. Algorithms that can be manipulated, and the lax regulation that looks away even when the risks are foreseeable, have sounded the alarm on social media's well-known harms. The bigger problem is that young people — the digital generation — are the ones most exposed to these risks. Lush's Announcement to Halt Social Media Starting November 26, Lush announced it would suspend its official accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp, and TikTok — everything except YouTube. They said that continuing to use these platforms, despite all the harm caused by their algorithms and by social media's many dysfunctions, ran counter to the values Lush stands for. I applaud them for practicing what they believe is uncomfortable but necessary, and I'm sharing their full statement here. #Lush #lush
