A Doctor's Question on Sustainable Quarantine: Brussels Sprouts
2020-12-20
Notes
20201220, When Ebola broke out in Africa in 2014, a lot of people lost their lives. Ebola is a disease where the virus is present in every bodily fluid. In traditional African funeral customs, the family fully washes and prepares the body of the deceased themselves. Because the virus is so potent, many family members ended up dying again through the funeral itself — the funeral became a kind of amplification event. So authorities banned the funerals, and there were sound medical reasons for it. Even so, for the people there, that was a duty owed to their children, a funeral culture, even at the risk of infection.
What makes COVID-19 so hard to bear is that it forces us to act against things that are matters of duty and culture. A green, green breakfast to soothe a crowded mind.
Blanch the world's prettiest #brusselssprouts, #greenbeans, and #broccoli in #bubbling boiling water, drain, and plate. Drizzle on a dressing of olive oil, whole-grain mustard, and white wine vinegar, then grate parmesan over the top.
This morning I also poured a cup of milk, microwaved it in three 30-second bursts, then pump-pump-pump-pump-pump-pumped by hand to make plenty of #steamedmilk, poured it over #espresso, and had myself a #caffelatte too.
