Baby greens with small West Sea oysters, pink pepper, dill, and plenty of lemon juice. #oystersalad
This is a #myfrenchstylesalad recipe.
At times like this I find myself turning the word 'annyeonghi' (안녕히, 'safely/peacefully') over in my mind. It's supposed to mean 'comfortably, without any trouble or worry.' There must be more than one or two things you can do 'comfortably,' so what verbs does 'annyeonghi' actually pair with? (omitted)
'Stay well (annyeonghi gyeseyo).' 'Go well (annyeonghi gaseyo).' 'Sleep well (annyeonghi jumuseyo).' 'Go and come back safely (annyeonghi danyeoo-seyo).' If you really squeeze, maybe 'Return safely (annyeonghi doragaseyo).' So what's the problem, you ask? Just this: why can't we say 'Come safely (annyeonghi oseyo)'? Why does 'Rest well, play well, work well, eat well, watch well' — all with annyeonghi — sound so awkward?
Kim Jin-hae, 'Annyeonghi'
The next paragraph makes this point: you can go annyeonghi, but you can't come annyeonghi.
I suppose annyeonghi is really the bare minimum courtesy we owe to someone who is leaving.
