20211104, #breakfastdiary 258, 8°C/mostly clear, 35min/workout Shine Muscat grapes and mozzarella with olive oil, pepper pepper pepper pepper. #MozzarellaSalad While preparing a special exhibition to trace the last hundred years of Seoul as reflected in popular songs — built around materials collected by pop-culture critic Choi Gyu-seong — the Cheonggyecheon Museum (director Kim Yeong-gwan) pulled together every popular song that used Seoul as its subject or theme, and came up with 1,141 songs in total, performed by 710 different singers. Breaking it down further: 544 songs mentioned 'Seoul' directly in the title, 85 mentioned Myeong-dong, 70 mentioned the Han River, 55 mentioned Seoul Station, and 40 mentioned Namsan, among others. By singer, Na Hoon-a and Lee Mi-ja tied for first with 14 songs each, followed by Oh Gi-taek with 13, Seol Un-do with 12, and Domi and Yoon Il-ro with 11 each. What started as a search for 'songs about Seoul' eventually led all the way to a 2010 exhibition at the Cheonggyecheon Museum, and later, to a published booklet. This is exactly the kind of microhistory we need more of.
