Apricot Open Sandwich

Last week I had to put together a small farewell gathering, and on a colleague's advice, I agonized over it and picked 'Let's Not Forget' (Jang Pil-sun, Kim Hyun-chul)—(there's a Sung Si-kyung/Kwon Jina version too, but somehow it had to be this one). Quietly pleased with my song choice, I was running through it in rehearsal when I remembered giving up on practicing this very song ahead of a performance a long time ago. Right before the emotionally soaring chorus line—"though our meeting ends here now~"—the rhythm, unlike the rest of the song, is deeply strange. I don't mean to disparage this beautiful song. But for someone with no sense of rhythm, that phrase, which hesitates as if it's about to land and then lands half a beat—or a quarter beat—off, can only be described, regrettably, as 'strange.' And anyone who's rhythmically challenged will agree with this completely. Though this is a story that has no place in the breakfast universe.
