Salt, pepper, and vinaigrette. #cabbagesteak Seared cabbage has a wholesome sweetness to it. If you mistake a general social tendency for a distinct generational difference and use it to define a generation, all you end up giving that generation is a false stereotype. And isn't that kind of false stereotype exactly the starting point of the social conflicts—like regional prejudice—that we're trying to move past? (Kim Min-jae, The Danger of Hasty Generational Theories) The generational theory getting attention lately can be summed up like this: men in their 20s and 30s are, relatively speaking, less inclined than people in their 50s or women in their 20s and 30s to want to share what they have with the disadvantaged in our society. (This seems to extend even into political discourse associated with men in that age group.) But it's worth reflecting on whether that conclusion actually accounts for the diversity within that generation, or whether it's simply reflecting an ordinary social trend. If the former is the fallacy of overgeneralization, the latter is the fallacy of overspecification.
