Mash boiled seasonal potatoes, mix in finely chopped cucumber (seeds removed) and carrot. Add salt, pepper, milk, and mayonnaise to taste, and stir well. Spread evenly onto milk bread—somehow it has to be milk bread. #potatosandwich
The Pimatgil alley behind the back entrance of Kyobo Book Centre in Gwanghwamun was, at most, only about 50 meters long. I remember walking it for what felt like a long while, catching the smell of grilled fish along the way, passing small side alleys branching off. But once that alley was flattened and replaced with a large building, the psychological distance shrank so much that you cross it in an instant. The wrinkle in time disappeared.
A city is its wrinkles. A city with those wrinkles ironed flat becomes a set with no substance, a place where the stories have vanished.
(Noh Eun-ju, Im Hyung-nam, Encountering the Wrinkles of the City)
Later in the piece, there's a passage about the Cheondogyo Central Cathedral and Suundoehoegwan in Gyeongun-dong (the area we usually just think of as Insadong). They were completed in 1921 and 1970, respectively. It's heartening that wrinkles like these still exist right in the middle of downtown.
Apparently, right at the center of the Central Cathedral, there's an old ginkgo tree and a bench. Today is a busy-minded kind of day. Since I left home a little early, I think I might stop by for a moment.
