Open House Seoul, Brick Well, and Endive
2020-10-18
Notes
20201018, every city seems to have its own 'building open house festival' — France's 'Heritage Days,' the UK's 'Open House London,' that sort of thing. Calling them 'buildings' makes it sound a little dry, but touring a beautifully designed house or building with the architect themselves as your guide (that's really the author giving the lecture in person) is a genuinely special experience. Luckily, Korea has held its own #openhouseseoul around this time every year since 2014. See @openhouse_seoul for details.
(It feels bittersweet to credit COVID-19 for this, but) this year stands out for new formats like VisitYourself for solo visits, plus video and livestream options. Special04 even includes #brickwell in Seochon, which set Instagram ablaze earlier this year.
*(Thinking back on last year) for on-site bookings, if you're not lightning-fast on the reservation button, slots vanish instantly. On-site booking opens Monday, 10/19 at 2:00 PM! (There's a note about splitting reservations between those under and over 50, apparently to account for people less comfortable with digital booking — which is touching, but also...)
Wash the prettiest #endive in the world thoroughly, add a few toasted walnuts, and dress with olive oil, whole-grain mustard, and white wine vinegar. #breakfast #salad #yesthisisstrictlyjustanappetizer
