Japanese Fish Cake (Chikuwa and Narutomaki) Salad

2026-04-02 · 7°C/clear · 450kcal

Notes

20260402, #BreakfastDiary 1680, 7°C/sunny Naruto (鳴門) refers to the massive whirlpool that forms in the Naruto Strait off the coast of Tokushima Prefecture in Japan. That, apparently, is how it lent its name to narutomaki, the fish cake with the swirl pattern. Narutomaki is in it, but no whirlpool in sight - about 450kcal, Japanese Fish Cake (Chikuwa and Narutomaki) Salad.

Ingredients

3 chikuwa, 1/2 narutomaki, 1T hemp seeds, 2T mayonnaise, 1T tsuyu, 2T tenkasu, a little basil powder

Steps

1. Briefly blanch the chikuwa and narutomaki in boiling water, then shake off the moisture. 2. In a mixing bowl, combine the chikuwa (cut into long strips), narutomaki, and hemp seeds with 2T mayonnaise and 1T tsuyu, and mix evenly. 3. Add 2T tenkasu and a little basil powder, mix a bit more, then plate it.
