Careet, Cord-Cutting, and Office Life

20210121 According to teens and twenty-somethings, content that's about to blow up starts on communities like DC Inside and on Twitter. Small trends first surface on YouTube or Nate Pann, then spread further through already-made content on Kakao FUN, Facebook, and Instagram. And by the time a trend finally reaches TV, its lifespan is basically over. #Careet Every day on my commute, I check the pulse of trends through Twitter and YouTube. ('Check the pulse' sounds a bit grand — really I just scroll out of habit.) Lately I've also been posting content on Instagram every day, getting a taste of this (rather surreal) world firsthand. TV? I cut the cord years ago — #cordcutting. But I still love mornings that begin with breakfast alongside the paper newspaper that lands at the door early in the day. Libraries and bookstores full of the scent of old books, and paper books themselves, remain far more lovable to me. And I'm still the type who insists on substance, context, and taste, even as I quietly think millennials can be a bit much. I suspect I'll stay that way. Today's breakfast is an open-faced sandwich from Her Vegetables — a good book. -Heat olive oil in a pan and lightly toast the bread on both sides; go generous with the ricotta. -Blanch tomato and green beans briefly, season with salt and pepper, and top with a soft-boiled egg. Finish with olive oil and pepper pepper pepper.
