Pineapple, ricotta cheese, a little salt and pepper, vinaigrette dressing #pineapplesalad
Ignorance is not something to be mocked. Who would dare? But if that ignorance is the result of contempt, that's a different story — if a numbness to historical violence and the wounds it inflicted on humanity is what grants someone the self-permission to remain ignorant. A remark about '120-hour work weeks' is a dismissal of the wounds left by a history of labor exploitation; pride in national ceremony is a dismissal of the unhappy history of nationalism that forced individuals into sacrifice for the state; approaching the question of phasing out nuclear power purely from an industrial angle is a dismissal of the tragedy nuclear accidents have inflicted on humanity. Ignorance as this kind of dismissal becomes violence against every victim, past and present. What should we be studying? Now is the time to study protecting others from ourselves. We must protect others from our own ignorance.
If studying, in the past, meant studying to protect myself from myself, and to protect myself from others, then now is a time that calls for studying to protect others from my own ignorance.
1. Cut the pineapple into bite-sized pieces and arrange on a plate.
2. Tuck ricotta cheese between the pineapple pieces.
3. Drizzle with the dressing and finish with a little salt and pink peppercorns.
