Perfume, The Story of a Murderer, Fennel & Salmon

20201129, Something reminded me of #Perfume:TheStoryOfAMurderer, so I rewatched it a few weeks ago. The scent that drives the whole story — reeking fish, the stench of Paris's back alleys — felt like something I was smelling through my eyes. The premise, a man crafting the most beautiful, legendary scent in the world out of human beings, is deeply seductive. By the film's second half, since it's not a smell you can actually breathe in, that ultimate scent just kept circling in my head. One thing is clear: it's the scent of a person, not the kind of scent that comes out of a shower gel or a fine perfume. #Perfume #TheStoryOfAMurderer It's nothing compared to that 'ultimate scent,' but #fennel has a distinctive aroma of its own. Supposedly that aroma cuts through the gaminess of meat and fish, which is how it earned the nickname #theherbformeat. -Sprinkle olive oil and salt over the #salmon and let it rest (pat pat). -Thinly slice the prettiest #fennel in the world and pan-fry both sides in olive oil. -Wake up the resting salmon and pan-fry it, carefully, carefully. -Plate the fennel and salmon together, add black olives, capers, and pink pepper, and finish with a crack of black pepper.
