'Planning labor' - defined as the mental work of planning out all of household management and care, finding the information needed, making decisions, and distributing and managing tasks. It's the effort of coordinating and overseeing each piece of 'execution labor,' like childcare, grocery shopping, cleaning, and laundry.
(Reporter Bang Jun-ho, 'The Planning Labor a Husband Misses When He Says Just Tell Me What to Do')
Care work and housework have only just begun to be recognized, but the value of planning labor still remains largely invisible in our society. It tends to explode into the open the moment you're faced with a (usually) spouse's attitude of 'just tell me if there's anything I can help with.' And honestly, the same holds true at the office.
I've been experimenting with ways to make pre-cooked octopus more tender. Today I rolled it with a rolling pin and then low-temp sous vide'd it, and it does seem a bit more tender. (If anyone has a better method, please let me know.)
