Still, what really decides whether a photo turns out happy or sad is light and sun. I usually eat breakfast and take the photo around 7am, and as the days lengthen after the spring equinox, there's a better chance of catching a nice breakfast photo even at that hour, just from the light coming through the window. Conversely, after the autumn equinox, when nights get longer, I end up relying on artificial light - so for breakfast photography, the spring and autumn equinoxes really are a mixed bag of joy and sorrow. Of course, it's not just light that ends up in the breakfast photo. Warmth lingers there too. One morning, the light falling on the apricot sandwich I'd made for breakfast and the mint on top made the mint's green even more vivid, while the warm sun gave it a sense of life. That's what sunlight makes, and what sunshine does.

Polishing up the final episode of #breakfasteveryday, which started back in July. In December, when I do this year's year-end review, it looks set to take a commanding double crown for both the most embarrassing and the most rewarding thing I did all year.
