20201106, 'Marketers, free yourselves from context! Doing something without context can actually feel more genuine. These days people will watch anything as long as it's fun, even without a clear beginning, middle, and end.' (...)
The point was that people now consume content regardless of context. What I found interesting is that even when you pull up the data on video content, you often can't tell at all which moment people liked, or why they even started watching. What I like about a video and what my friend likes about it can be completely different. (Lee Seung-hee (@2tnnd), #TheUseOfRecordkeeping)
Quite a while ago, I was put in charge of a viral video project. The mood on the team wasn't great, and I wasn't happy with the video's quality either. We burned through the ad budget and I'd more or less given up on it — but a few months later, views suddenly started spiking somewhere in Eastern Europe, and it went viral worldwide from there. Broadcasters like Discovery Channel and Fuji TV picked it up soon after and even followed up with interviews of the people in it.
Just like with video content today, the tipping point of success is always hard to predict. So people say there's no need to obsess over substance, taste, or context — but maybe that #tippingpoint actually starts precisely from that obsessive habit(?) of tallying up substance, taste, and context, quietly stacking up inside each of us.
Chop #broccoli and scatter it over freshly cooked rice, add a bit of salted pollock roe (#myeongran) on top, and finish with a drizzle of perilla oil. A hearty, warm #breakfast #morningmeal #breakfasttable ##broccolipollockroerice
