Notes

20210115 I recently enjoyed reading #KimCho-yeop's sci-fi novel #IfWeCannotGoAtTheSpeedOfLight. Fittingly, this morning's newspaper carried a review of #BecomingACyborg, co-written by Kim Cho-yeop (who is not disabled) and lawyer Kim Won-young (who is). As they put it, we first need to recognize the everyday limitation in the common narrative where technology 'gifts' normalcy to disabled people while non-disabled people watch and feel moved by it. I agree that technology shouldn't be aimed at achieving perfection, but should instead be a tool that helps us live alongside imperfection. 'Rather than a society where people wear expensive personal mobility devices to walk around, I hope for a society with more technology that lets me, even in a wheelchair, keep a dog and be my elderly mother's caregiver at the hospital without any trouble.' — Kim Won-young There's no technology to turn an overripe avocado back into an unripe one, but there's plenty of technique for turning it into something delicious. Mash the flesh of the prettiest avocado in the world, then mix in seeded, diced tomato, chopped onion, salt, pepper, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a touch of honey. (Removing the tomato seeds keeps things from getting watery.) Rinse spinach well under running water, plate it with careless ease, and gently spoon the guacamole on top.
