Notes

20250209 #breakfastdiary 1308, -3/clear, 20 min/exercise (M) I read that the origin of the Chinese character 民 (min, "people") traces back to an oracle bone script symbol representing a war prisoner who had lost one eye — evolving from slave, to subject, to today's meaning of "citizen." And yet some people still seem to treat "the people" as though they were war prisoners, slaves, or subjects of an absolute monarch. A little different from the one I made a few days ago — a flourless strawberry almond #oatbake from a New York Times recipe. 👉Approx 1,200kcal total, split into two servings, 600kcal each

Ingredients

(topping) 5 strawberries, 2T almonds, (batter) 3T butter, 2 cups milk, 1 egg, 1/4 cup sugar, 2T maple syrup, 1t vanilla extract, 2 cups oats, 1t baking powder, 1t cinnamon powder, 1t salt *Might work fine with just 1 cup of milk too. 👉Here's how 1. In a mixing bowl, combine the batter ingredients — 3T melted butter (double boiler), 2 cups milk, 1 egg, 1/4 cup sugar, 2T maple syrup, 1t vanilla extract, 2 cups oats, 1t baking powder, 1t cinnamon powder, 1t salt — and mix well. 2. Butter an oven-safe dish, pour in the batter from step 1, top with strawberries and almonds, and bake in a 180°C oven for 30 minutes.
