The season for good fresh peaches is almost here. Naturally, <My Liberation Notes> doesn't move toward a familiar redemption narrative either. Its characters aren't saved. They're only changed, ever so slightly, by someone who comes from a completely different world. The show is full of small, everyday enemies that torment its characters. Unlike a typical Korean drama, they aren't punished on moral grounds. They don't repent, either. They'll probably go on living as the same flawed people even after the show ends. The Yeom family and Mr. Gu don't get the ending we expected, either. Someone dies suddenly. Someone suddenly meets a new person. Someone starts dreaming of a job they never once considered. And with that, the drama ends abruptly, as if to say there's no such thing as a perfect happy ending in our lives — that life is less like the ten-lane Gangnam-daero and more like an unpredictable country road in some rural town, full of the bloated corpses of frogs that never made it across. Which is to say, you should absolutely watch this drama, even though it's already over. And let me say again: this isn't a masterpiece. The word 'masterpiece' is unbearably boring.
