Chicken Breast & Asparagus Salad

20201115, A junior colleague shared a post captioned 'Full of Traitors,' about the #UniqloJilSanderFrenzy. This isn't the first Uniqlo x Jil Sander collaboration as far as I know, but this round probably launched a wider, better range of pieces. In an interview on Uniqlo's website, when asked how the natural landscape of northern Germany influenced him and his design, Jil Sander answered this way: “This area is known for its clear, bright sunlight. The light is so pure that everything is illuminated right down to the detail. That light is an extremely important factor for me in choosing fabric, because it's closely tied not just to color but to the quality of the material itself. Under this light, there's no faking it — every detail of the weave is laid bare. That's how you can pick out only the very best fabric.” (Jil Sander, Uniqlo website) I remember reading once that Italy's brilliant sunlight accounted for 80% of what let sculptors create masterpieces like the Pietà or David. Under that kind of light, the curves of a sculpture and the shadows they cast would have stood out all the more. Light that reveals the detail of a weave, light that maximizes the shadow of a sculpture — it's all light. The breakfast photos I make and shoot every morning are also heavily shaped by light. Thanks to that, I've really come to feel the light of summer, fall, and winter. Now that we're deep into late fall heading into early winter, I usually make and photograph breakfast before sunrise, so I'm always missing natural light. In that sense, weekends are a relief.
