Publy, Machiavelli, and The Prince

Notes

20201030, according to brain science, systems of competition and pressure trigger the human 'fight-or-flight' response. This neural reaction is similar to the 'brain hijack' phenomenon* that occurs when we're suddenly faced with a physical threat, like running into a dangerous wild animal. *A phenomenon where the amygdala seizes control of the brain — in a crisis, the brain gets 'hijacked' by the amygdala and becomes unable to do even things it could normally handle with ease. (Jang Jae-woong & Sanghyo Yijae, Understanding Agile Philosophy (1)) #publy #publy Now picture a boss who habitually treats employees with a domineering attitude and abusive language. Most of the time, the moment employees stand in front of him, they freeze up and can't even get out what they'd normally say — which only triggers another round of the same domineering, abusive behavior. #machiavelli probably never heard of #brainhijack, but even The Prince has a passage saying a ruler doesn't need to be kind or moral — he should be cold and ruthless. So then, what should you do when you run into a dangerous wild animal? Haha. Had one lonely #tomato left in the fridge, so I rinsed some rice, laid the peeled tomato on top, cooked it for 10 minutes, turned off the heat and let it steam for 5 more, then lightly mashed the tomato. Transferred it to a bowl with some good olive oil, and a little #parmigiano to season it — #tomatoricepot #breakfast #breakfast #ricepot #breakfasttable
