When a designer dreams, the engineer evaluates that dream with a cold, clear eye. Which is why many dreams end up shattered easily. The engineer is doing their best, but from the designer's point of view, it can look like a refusal to embrace anything new. The answer designer Park found was to trust and hand it over, at least at first.
"I realized I couldn't chase down and intervene in every single decision-making process. So I just trust and hand it over. I believe that person is doing their best in their own way, just as I'm doing my best in mine.
When a designer trusts an engineer and hands things over, I learned that the engineer, in turn, tries even harder to realize the designer's intent. And that this has nothing to do with professional expertise or conviction - it's a matter of human connection between people. I think it's a more meaningful experience than anything confined to the scope of 'the job.'"
