In Japanese, okonomi (お好み) means "as you like it" and yaki (焼き) means "grilled," so loosely translated it means grilling something up however you please. After cooking one round, I belatedly looked up what okonomiyaki actually meant, dug some octopus out of the fridge, and threw it in to suit my taste. Maybe it's just me, but it looks a little burnt - still, about 400kcal, Okonomiyaki.
Ingredients
110g cabbage, 1 egg, 3T oatmeal, 2T water, 1T tsuyu, a pinch of seasoned salt, 2T tenkasu (tempura scraps), 1T mayonnaise, parsley powder and bonito flakes
Steps
1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 egg, 3T oatmeal, 2T water, 1T tsuyu, and a pinch of seasoned salt, mix well, and let soak for at least 10 minutes. (Substituted oatmeal since I had no tempura flour.)
2. Slice the cabbage and set aside.
3. Add the cabbage from step 2 and 2T tenkasu to the mixing bowl from step 1, and mix well.
4. Pour oil into a pan and cook on both sides.
5. Plate and slather generously with mayonnaise, then top heavily with parsley powder and bonito flakes.
