There was a time when, because 'jajangmyeon' was declared the standard spelling, people weren't supposed to call it 'jjajangmyeon' anymore. Now both jjajangmyeon and jajangmyeon are accepted as standard. And yet, bus is written 'beoseu' but pronounced 'ppeoseu,' game is pronounced 'kkeim,' dance is pronounced 'ttaenseu.' You can rationalize it every which way, but life, at its core, is just a little bit absurd like that.
