Chicory, Apple, and a Morning Routine

2020-10-12

Notes

20201012, "I sincerely send warm regards to our beloved compatriots in the south as well, and hope that this health crisis will soon be overcome, so that North and South can once again clasp hands together." A line from North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's speech at the military parade marking the 75th anniversary of the Workers' Party's founding. It likely reflects an effort to console a people worn down by a complicated mix of external factors — last month's shooting incident, the U.S. presidential election — layered on top of an endless 'virus' to fight off, and a seemingly never-ending monsoon season (read: climate crisis). I don't necessarily think the two divided states have to become one. But at the very least, I hope nothing drives the Korean peninsula toward extreme crisis, not even the smallest threat. Beyond that, there's a mountain of problems that humanity — that all of us — need to solve by "clasping hands together." Went to the market yesterday and picked up some bitter #chicory. Cut into bite-sized pieces and paired with seasonal #apple, olive oil, balsamic, and some nuts, it makes for a very well-behaved #breakfast. #salad #morningroutine
