20201014, last week, the government of Shenzhen in China's Guangdong province held a lottery giving away a total of 10 million yuan (about 1.7 billion won) in digital yuan. Nearly 2 million people applied, and 50,000 winners each received 200 yuan (about 34,000 won) in digital yuan. Shenzhen said retailers like Walmart, local supermarkets, and pharmacies all took part in the digital yuan payment trial. #digitalcurrency Governments' worries, which started with concerns over Facebook's digital currency Libra taking off, are now barreling straight toward digital currencies of their own.
