What usually comes to mind with 'Hawaiian pizza' is pizza topped with grilled pineapple. But in Italy, pizza's home country, it gets no respect — some even call pineapple pizza 'an insult to pizza.'
Earlier this year, though, a third-generation pizzaiolo in Naples made headlines by putting pineapple on his pizza. Here's to his courage — #pineappletoast
You'll need pineapple, and cream cheese or ricotta.
Brush sourdough with olive oil and toast both sides until crisp.
Wipe the juice off the pineapple, cut it into cubes, and sear it in a pan. A short blast of high heat drives off the juice — the tartness fades and the sweetness doubles.
Spread cream cheese on the sourdough and top with the pineapple. If you're using ricotta or burrata instead, it's nice piled on top of the pineapple too.
Oh, and pineapple pairs well with cinnamon. Try dusting on a little~
