Egg Bread & Microwave Tomato Soup

Notes

20201118, With COVID-19 dragging on and working from home and #stayingin becoming the norm, all kinds of dishes that never used to exist are popping up. There's a whole genre of 'stir it N times' recipes — #dalgonalatte (stir 1,000 times), #souffleomelette (also 1,000 times), #maplesyrupjam (500 times), and the like. #easycooking, or what some call #hackcooking, is having a moment again too — things like microwave #tomatosoup, #brownies, and #lasagna. For anyone short on ingredients or kitchen tools, or who just finds cooking hard for whatever reason, this seems like a great way to get one satisfying meal. Though if COVID keeps going like this, maybe someday these microwave hacks will get the same respectful treatment as the #Eumsikdimibang. *Eumsikdimibang: Korea's oldest known Hangul cookbook, written roughly 400 years ago by Lady Jang of Andong, containing 146 recipes. Egg Bread 1. Mix pancake mix and water at a 2:1 ratio, add a pinch of salt. 2. Pour the batter into a mug, then crack an egg on top. 3. Microwave for 3 minutes. 4. Around the 2:30 mark, listen for a pop. The yolk bursts and sets off a chain reaction that makes the egg bread explode. Plate whatever egg bread survives the explosion. Tomato Soup 1. Cut the tomato in half. 2. Add 5 spoonfuls of water 3. Sprinkle with a little butter, salt, and pepper. (Olive oil works instead of butter, though butter gives it a slightly more refined flavor) 5. Microwave for 3 minutes.
